Cut Flower Care Guide

We’re so glad you chose to purchase flowers from us! What should you do with them when you get them home? Read below for tips on how to keep fresh cut flowers alive for longer.

How to Keep Flowers Fresh for Longer

If you purchased your flowers from us at the market, we have made a fresh cut on the flowers for you when you purchased them. If you notice, the cut was made at an angle. This is on purpose to allow the stem to drink up more water. When you get them home, here is the steps you should take to have success with keeping them alive for longer:

  • As soon as possible, get them into a vase with 3-4 inches of water so they can stay hydrated

  • If you purchased a preservative packet from us, you may also add that as well.

  • Another way you can keep the water fresh for longer is to Dissolve 3 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons white vinegar per quart (liter) of warm water. When you fill the vase, make sure the cut stems are covered by 3-4 inches of the prepared water. The sugar nourishes the plants, while the vinegar inhibits bacterial growth.

  • Change out the water every day or two. Maintaining fresh water in the vase will keep the plants healthy. Adding an ice cube with each water change can help the flowers last longer as well.

  • Keep the flowers away from any heat source in your house such as the oven or stove.

  • Always use clean vases and make sure that no leaves fall into the water. If they do, remove the leaves as soon as possible
